Born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Tristan Bayer grew up traveling the world making nature documentaries, mentored by his father, renowned wildlife filmmaker, Wolfgang Bayer.
Tristan worked his way up from sound man and assistant cameraman to finally landing his own gig as producer/director/cameraman at the age of 19. After winning a $100,000 BBC / Time-Life Natural History Innovation Grant for his fresh ideas for a television series he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career merging his artistic disciplines.
As a multi-hyphenate filmmaker, Tristan Bayer’s credits include television host, producer, writer, director, cinematographer, editor, photographer, and digital artist. His work has aired in the US and internationally on Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Planet Green, National Geographic, BBC, Fox, TBS, and MTV.
Tristan was nominated for an Emmy in cinematography for the TV series he created hosted and acted as director of photography entitled “Caught in the Moment”, a ten part one hour series on Animal Planet. Recently Tristan directed, produced and D.P.’d the short film “Acid Test: The Global Challenge of Ocean Acidification” featuring Sigourney Weaver for the NRDC.
Tristan’s passion for the natural world, innovative storytelling and new media pushes the technology and creativity together to create a range of work that spans the globe and focuses on projects with important social and environmental messages as well as projects that celebrate the magic of life on Earth.
